Green Sea Tutle
Habibtat - Males live their whole lives at sea. Females also live at sea but return to land, to the same beach where they were born, to lay their eggs once every 2 years. Green sea turtles are found in all topical ans sub tropical seas along the caosts of continents and islands.
Diet - Young turtles are carniverous feeding on jellies and invertebtrates. As adults they become herbivores feeding on sea grasses and algae. They have a serrated beak for tearing vegetation. Their vegetartian diet gives their skin a greenish colour which is how the green sea turltle got its name.
Size - These turtles grow a shell up to 3.5 feet in length and weigh up to 400 pounds.
Predators - Raccoons, foxes, dogs, seabirds and crabs prey upon turtle eggs. Young turtles are eaten by seabirds, crabs and carnivorpous fish. Adults may be aeten by tiger sharks.
Population status - Green sea turtle populations worldwide are declining and in some countries are listed as threatened or endangered. Humans are the greatest threat to to sea turtles. They catch them, harvest their eggs, disturb nesting beaches, pollute, and fish in ways that are harmful to to turtles.
