My Best Christmas Present by Tom

For Christmas I got a Lego Star Wars ship. It was "Anakin's Jedi Interceptor". It came with Anakin, Nute Gunray, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Security Battle Droid, and R2-D2 figures.

It also came with instructions and so I was able to build it all by myself. Attached is a picture of me and the finished model. I was very pleased with myself as it's the first big Lego model I've made by myself. Dad sat next to me and was very impressed, giving me a "Hi-5" and a "well done" when I had finished.

It was one of my favourite presents.

Henri Stays for a Sleepover @ Tom's / Update on Seeds

I have lots of cousins, but this week my cousin Henri came to stay for a couple of nights. We did some cool things including talking to some of Henri's class-mates on Facetime on his iPad. It's cool having cousins.

Update - Oh, and an update on my bean seed and flower garden in an egg-carton. The bean seed now has a big long green shoot which stretches up toward the sun. The flowers have lots of green shoots, but still don't have flowers.

Tom's Seed Experiment

Last week I prepared my seed containers, got some potting mix, dampened it down with a little water, then planted my seeds. I chose to plant flower seeds: Californian Poppies, Cosmos, and Alyssum (which I can't pronounce - its a bit tricky). I was interested that each type of seed looked very different. I can't wait to see how they grow.

I also prepared a jar with damp cotton wool and put a broad bean seed into it.

Both containers are near a window so they get some good sunlight and warmth during the day.

Update - 8th Nov. 2012 - the bean seed has now produced a shoot.

How Does Your Hair Grow

I wondered whether hair grows from your brain, so I did some reading and looked on the internet and discovered that hair does NOT grow out of the brain. The brain is safe and secure inside the skull and has more important things to do. Hair grows from just under the skin's surface. See the diagrams attached.

Today I brought "Justin Beaver" home from school. Justin Beaver is what I call him. He is a big fluffy Teddy Bear. I was so excited and I couldn't wait to show everyone. I wrote a story about "Justin Beaver" and took some photographs with him. You'll hear and read about my adventures in the "story" which I've added to the story book.

Tonight I dressed "Justin Beaver" in my Spiderman pajamas. He looked so cool. He slept very quietly beside me all night.

My Favourite Super Hero

Guess who my favourite super hero is?

I'm sure you know. It is Spiderman. I like Spiderman because:

  • He can climb up walls.
  • He can shoot web and he swings from it. I would love to be able to swing like him.
  • He gets the bad guys.
  • He's a hero.
I would like to make Spiderman movies when I grow up.

My Dad took me to see The Amazing Spiderman a few weeks ago, and its my favourite Spiderman movie.

Basketball Gold!

Bounce, bounce, bounce went the red and black basketball. I bounced it really high and I bounced it really low and my hands were moving really fast. Then, pretending I was playing for New Zealand I shot 12-goals and we won. We beat South Africa to win a gold medal. Yahoo! It was good to win a gold medal. I felt happy, proud of myself and the team, excited, and was looking forward to learning new skills, practicing by myself and with the team, and getting a lot better. I want to win another Olympic gold medal.
